A Uniontown man is dead and his wife injured in a crash that happened Sunday night in the 7700 block of Strausser St., NW in Jackson Township.

First responders with the Jackson Township Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area at 11p.m. for reports of an accident. When they arrived to the scene, they located a two-vehicle crash.

According to police, Jacob Muiter, 27, of North Canton, was heading west on Strausser St when he traveled left of center and crashed head-on into a 2017 Toyota. In the Toyota was John Pappas, 53, and his passenger Kristine Pappas, 52.

John was pronounced dead on the scene by the Stark County coroner’s office. Kristine was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center for injuries. Muiter refused medical treatment at the time of the crash, but did seek medical treatment at a later time.

Drugs and/or alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, according to police.
