The Canton Police Department is handling the investigating into an alleged assault Sunday morning in the city.
According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Maryland Ave SW for reports of a domestic incident. When they arrived, a man opened the door with wounds on his head and body.
The 68-year-old assault victim told officers that his son, 45-year-old John Holstein, allegedly walked into the bathroom where he was and began striking him with a hammer. The father retreated to his bedroom where, grabbed a can of pepper spray and sprayed it at Holstein in an attempt to get away. The victim said the attack was unprovoked.
Holstein’s address is listed as homeless in court documents.
Holstein was later arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Felonious Assault, Tampering with Evidence and Domestic Violence.
The victim remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
