HS Sports Thursday: Strasburg volleyball bests Malvern; Rinkes’ 35 leads Carrollton golf over Minerva

Strasburg managed an IVC volleyball match win in four sets over Malvern on Thursday at Strasburg.

Aubrey Thomas has 12 points, 10 assists, and seven digs for the Tigers, while Ada Richards added 10 points and eight assists.

Olivia Brothers had 10 points, 18 assists, five blocks, and three aces for the Hornets (105, 0-2 IVC), while Kenna Ball added 10 points, three aces, and five blocks.

CLAYMONT 21-25-21-25-15, GARAWAY 25-23-25-20-13

Kailey Watkins scored 16 points and added 11 digs, eight kills, and a pair of aces in the Mustangs’ five-set match win over Garaway.

Morgan Schlabach had 21 kills, 19 digs, and three aces for the Pirates (5-2, 1-1 IVC).

CARROLLTON 19-20-25-25-15, ALLIANCE 25-25-22-23-12

Carrollton overcame two dropped sets to best Alliance in a fifth-set tiebreaker on Thursday night.

Gracie Bagozzi led the Warriors with 10 points and an ace, as Carrollton improved to 4-3 (1-1 EBC).

INDIAN VALLEY 20-25-19-25-15, DOVER 25-19-25-22-10

Indian Valley squeaked by Dover in a five-set Thursday match.

Quincey Werntz led the Braves with 37 assists, 15 points, and five aces, as the Crimson Tornadoes dropped to 1-6.

WOOSTER 25-25-25, NEW PHILADELPHIA 16-14-16

Wooster earned a straight sets victory over visiting New Philadelphia, who was handed their first loss of the season.

Sarah Ciereszewski had seven points and six digs for the Quakers (4-1, 2-1 OCC), while Brooklyn Crowell had seven kills and eight digs.

TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 25-25-25, SANDY VALLEY 19-19-11

Tusky Valley swept Sandy Valley in a Thursday IVC showdown.

Locie Levengood totaled 16 points and 16 digs for the Trojans.

Lexi Tucci had 12 kills for the Cardinals, who suffered their first loss of the year.

TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 25-25-25, EAST CANTON 6-3-12

Central Catholic dominated defensively over East Canton.

Among the top performers for the Saints (2-2) were Maddie Ferrell (8 kills, 6 digs, 12 assists, 11 aces), Jordyn Caldwell (8 kills, 6 digs, 13 assists), and Rylee Dillon (13 digs).

HILAND 25-25-25, RIDGEWOOD 10-11-16

Hiland improved to 4-0 with its conference play-opening match win over Ridgewood.

The Hawks’ sweep was led by Ava Troyer (10 kills, 4 blocks), Ava Weaver (24 assists, 14 points), and Haley Yoder (14 points, 23 digs).

Kaelynn Robinson has 18 digs and eight kills for the Generals, while Kelly Maslowski pitched in 13 assists.

MINERVA 25-25-25, SALEM 8-21-21

Minerva dominated in the opening set of a 3-frame victory over Salem on Thursday.

The Lions received 12 kills from Gabby Romano, along with four aces. Ashley Bowman added four aces for Minerva (2-3, 1-1 EBC).

CONOTTON VALLEY 25-25-18-24-15, TORONTO 17-16-25-26-13

The Conotton Valley Rockets pulled out a five-set win over the Toronto Red Knights on Thursday.

BOYS GOLF

GARAWAY 162, BUCKEYE TRAIL 198

Garaway improved to 6-1 with a Thursday match win at Salt Fork.

Keshawn Miller fired a 39 to lead the Pirates, while Trace Gibson, Nick Maust, Jackson Reifenschneider, and Kaleb Miller each shot 41.

CARROLLTON 152, MINERVA 179

Jaxon Rinkes led Carrollton with a 39 as the Warriors bested Minerva at Great Trail Golf Course.

Colton Moore added a 37 for Carrollton, followed by Isaac Warner’s 38 and a pair of 42s from Cayden Rininger and John Birong.

Case Waller led the Lions with a 37.

SANDY VALLEY 154, RIDGEWOOD 213

Connor Ritter, John Wood, and Dantae Faiello each broke 40 in Sandy Valley’s Thursday match win over Ridgewood at RIver Greens.

Ritter carded a match-low 36, while Wood’s 38 and Faiello’s 39 – along with Lucas Ellington’s 41 – combined for the winning team score.

Ben Shuck shot a 42 for the Generals, while the Cardinals improved to 8-2 (5-1 IVC).

INDIAN VALLEY 155, TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 213

Indian Valley had few problems in their Thursday IVC match win over Tusky Valley at River Greens.

Daniel Grewell posted a 37 for the Braves, along with Austen Gunn and Deagon Beader’s 39s, and Brody Meade’s 40.

Conner Gardner led the Trojans with a 40.

HILAND 170, CLAYMONT 202

Hiland won their Thursday IVC match over visiting Claymont at Fire Ridge.

Lucas Yoder won match medalist honors with a 40, while Camden Bille (41), Nathan Kline (43), and Cowan Miller (46) posted qualifying scores for the Hawks.

Koi Preston posted a team-best 41 for the Mustangs.

STRASBURG 171, EAST CANTON 213

Strasburg bested East Canton in an IVC showdown at Clearview.

Trenton Bitikofer shot a 40 to lead the Tigers (6-3, 4-3 IVC), while Jason Grywalsky added a 42. Gage Bonifant posted a 44, while Parker Edwards rounded out with a 45.

Jeremiah Kandel led the Hornets’ scores with a 50.

MALVERN 186, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC DNQ

Ethan Bush and Lauren Brown each shot a 44 in Malvern’s IVC win over Central Catholic at Great Trail.

Rowan Breeil posted a 49 for the Saints.

DOVER 178, NORTHWEST 206

Riley Schie’s 39 led Dover to a Thursday win over Northwest at Lyons Den.

Schie was followed by scores from teammates Piper Olsen (44), Mya Downing (46), and Izzy Lint (49).

GARAWAY 150, CLAYMONT 200

Garaway bested Claymont by 50 strokes on Thursday at Black Gold.

Sammi Miller (36), Sydni Prysi, Brooklyn Numbers (both 37), and Camryn Ianniello (40) rounded out the Pirates’ scores, while Alivia Edwards led the Mustangs with a 43.

RIDGEWOOD 174, STRASBURG DNQ

Ridgewood earned a team win over Strasburg at Five Waters.

Jacey Hess and Gianna Menapase each shot a 42 for the Generals, while the Tigers (2-4) were led by Micah Burkett’s 45.

TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 3, CANTON SOUTH 1

Tusky Valley improved its record to 3-1 with a Thursday match win over the Canton South Wildcats.

COLUMBIANA 6, CARROLLTON 3

Columbiana managed a Thursday victory over Carrollton.

THe Warriors received a goal each from Adam Bennett, John Pesta, and Quentin Rosenberger.

DOVER 9, MINERVA 0

The Crimson Tornadoes handled Minerva in a non-conference Thursday soccer match.

The Crimson Tornadoes outshot the Lions on goal by a 16-4 margin.

NEW PHILADELPHIA 7, WEST HOLMES 2

New Philadelphia won handily over West Holmes on Thursday.

MASSILLON WASHINGTON 2, WEST HOLMES 0

The Massillon Tigers earned a Thursday match win over West Holmes.

Robert Yabroff saved 19 of 21 shots on goal for the Knights.

GIRLS TENNIS

NEW PHILADELPHIA 4, CAMBRIDGE 1

New Phila improved to 3-7 with a match in over the Cambridge Bobcats.

Amber Albritton (NP) bested Miranda Cole (6-1, 6-1) the Quakers singles players, while Katelyn Mamula beat Emma Krise (6-1, 6-0).

In doubles, Taylor Roe and Madison Scott topped Cambridge’s Kilee Jeffrey-Reese Antill (7-5, 6-3), while Kenedi Shook and Katelynn Scott (NP) beat Selina Garcia-Jaelyn Combs (6-4, 6-2).

ASHLAND 3, DOVER 2

Dover dropped to 10-1 with a close Thursday loss to Ashland.

Ashland earned wins in both doubles matches, with Chloe Ediger-Morgan Kaufman beating Avery Contini-Katlyn Hines (6-1, 6-1), and Alex Swartzentruber-Haley LeFever defeating Hallie Lint-Bella Maize (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).

Kaleigh McCutcheon (6-2, 6-2 over Simone Haynes) and Josie Pinelli (6-2, 6-3 over Makayla Spencer) each won their respective singles matches for the Tornadoes.

CLAYMONT 5, BEAVER LOCAL 1

Claymont swept singles play en route to a Thursday match win over Beaver.

Arianna Terakedis (6-1, 6-4 over Kara Wain), Emily Luyster (6-1, 6-3 over Addie Mobley), and Makayla Kendall (6-1, 6-1 over Aubre West) earned singles victories, while doubles play included wins of Maddison Houston and Maliaka Douglas (6-7, 6-4, 11-9 over Sara Adams-Kennedy Wilkes), and Claire Clarlisle and Maegan Douglas 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 over Victoria Saphore-Miranda Sinsley).
