Early Friday morning, the Canton Police Department was dispatched to the 5200 block of Market Ave N for reports of a single-vehicle accident.
When officers arrived to the scene, they located a 2007 Hummer H3 overturned on the east side of the road. The vehicle contained two occupants who were trapped inside and had to be extracted.
The Hummer was traveling south bound on Market Ave when it traveled left of center, off the roadway and struck a tree.
The Canton Fire Department extracted the two occupants of the vehicle. One of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital and remains in critical condition.
The Canton Metro Crash Team responded and is handling the investigation. It’s unknown whether alcohol is a suspected factor of the crash.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending family notifications.
