A woman was charged with an OVI after reportedly driving the wrong way on I-77 early Wednesday morning in Stark County, causing a serious crash with injury, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A 47-year-old woman, who troopers believe was impaired at the time of the crash, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes in her Hyundai Tuscon near US-30 in Canton. That’s when troopers said she ran head-on into a Jeep Wrangler.

The 25-year-old woman driving the Jeep was treated for minor injuries.

Brenny Hayhurst, 47, of Cheyenne St., Canton, is the alleged impaired driver of the Hyundai. She was transported to Aultman Hospital after sustaining serious injuries. Hayhurst has been charged with OVI and driving the wrong-way on the highway, according to court records.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
