A man from Apple Creek is dead and a Louisville man is left with a broken leg after a wrong-way crash on US 30 Saturday night, according to the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to information obtained by OSHP, Douglas B. Fahrni, 62, of Apple Creek, was operating a gray 2021 Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound on US Route 30. Franco P. Guidone, 30, of Louisville, was operating a silver 2019 Chevrolet Trax, traveling eastbound on US Route 30 in the westbound lanes. This crash occurred on the west side of US 30 near Milepost 5 in Tuscarawas Township just before 11 pm.

Guidone, while driving on the wrong-side of the divided highway, struck Fahrni’s vehicle head-on.

Fahrni sustained life-threatening injuries during the crash. He was transported from the crash scene to Aultman Hospital by Brewster Fire Department EMS, where he died from the injuries.

Guidone was transported to Aultman Hospital with a broken leg.

An off-duty police officer from the Perry Township Police Department and an off-duty paramedic from the Perry Township Fire Department drove up on the crash scene, according to OSHP. Both remained on scene to assist the drivers and render aid.

Alcohol is a suspected factor of the crash, which remains under investigation.
