The Akron Police Department is investigating the homicide of a 17-year-old boy found dead in the parking lot of I Promise School, located in the 400 block of W. Market Street.
Officers were dispatched just before 11pm Thursday for a call about a fight. When emergency personnel arrived to the scene, they located the teen unconscious with severe injuries.
Officials learned during the course of the investigation that the victim was with a group of friends who pulled into the school’s parking lot. Shortly after arriving, the victim and his friends became involved with three other males who were already at the school playing basketball.
During the altercation, the victim was knocked unconscious and brutally assaulted. He died as a result of his injuries.
The name of the victim is being withheld at this time and the case remains under investigation.
