Three people have been charged in connection to the death of a man whose body was found on the side of a road in Canton Township on Tuesday, May 10.

According to reports, the Stark County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hardington Avenue NE after a passerby said they saw a body on the side of the road.

When deputies arrived to the scene, they found Joseph A. Pomeroy’s body wrapped in a blanket and plastic bag on the side of the road. Investigators believe he was dead for more than 24 hours before he was found.

After further investigation, deputies arrested three people, all of Canton.

They charged Jeremy A. Morlock, 43, of 616 Correll Ave. NE with aggravated murder and a parole violation, according to jail records.

Clayton J. Smart, 24, and Mary Ann Soliday, both of the Correll Avenue NE address, were charged with complicity to aggravated murder.

The three arrested are said to be housemates as they all share the same address.

Days after Pomeroy’s death, the trio of suspects were accused of brutally beating and raping another man.

Investigators said a parole officer was conducting a parole check on Morlock and when he arrived, he found another man tied up and locked in the basement who had been beaten and sexually assaulted.

The victim of the beaten remains in serious condition.

Morlock is also facing charges of kidnapping, felonious assault and rape.

Soliday and Smart are also facing charges of kidnapping, felonious assault and rape in addition to complicity to murder charges.

Court records state that Soliday and Smart assisted in causing Pomeroy’s death. They’re also accused of having a role in the assault and rape of the man in the basement.

Police have obtained a warrant for a fourth person related to the investigation. Andrew Williams, 27, was last seen in the 300 block of 8th St. NE. He is to be considered armed and dangerous and the public is asked to not approach him.
