COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced on Monday that the inaugural girls state wrestling tournament will be held in March 2023 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

The 2023 tournament will take place at the same time as the boys’ state tournament on March 10-12, and will remain a three-day, double-elimination event.

“We are very excited for the girls to wrestle in the same environment at the Schottenstein Center that the boys do,” OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute said in a statement. “We have been working through the logistics of having both state tournaments held alongside each other at the tournaments held alongside each other at the Schott and we are pleased that it can be done. The excitement and energy will be incredible.”

The Schottenstein Center has hosted the boys’ wrestling tournament since 1999 (barring the 2020 and 2021 tournaments, the latter of which was spread across multiple Ohio high schools, due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The Ohio High School Coaches Association has conducted a girls tournament since 2020. The OHSAA announced in January that girls wrestling – along with boys volleyball – would be added as a sanctioned sport, beginning with the 2022-23 school year.
