The City of Dover has named an interim mayor in light of Richard Homrighausen suspension pending his felony trial for theft in office charges.

Shane Gunnoe, the current Dover City council President, was appointed interim mayor by Tuscarawas County Probate Judge Adam Wilgus.

“I understand that not everyone may agree with my decision, but I hope everyone will accept how
the decision was made,” Judge Wilgus said. “I believe the process was fair, equitable and in the best interest of the City of Dover.”

The process included six Dover residents who applied to be interim mayor. The six applicants were narrowed down to two recommendations by a special committee and presented to Judge Wilgus for appointment.

Gunnoe will receive full mayoral compensation during the duration of Homrighausen’s suspension, who will also receive his full pay.
