As the polls closed Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m., many races were determined early in the first Ohio primary of 2022. Let’s start with local races:
In Stark County, the Board of Elections reported that 55,956 ballots were cast. There are 247,566 registered voters in the county.
LOCAL BALLOTS:
Marlington Schools Levy
One of the major Stark County issues on the ballot was the Marlington Local Emergency Additional Levy.
The ballot failed with 66.14% of the voters voting against the tax levy – meaning the school will have to cut funding, starting with 23 school employees.
Alliance City Schools Levy
Voters approved a permanent improvement levy for Alliance City Schools with 52% of the voters in favor.
The 2.7-mill levy will generate an annual amount of $842,000 for the district. The money will be used for school building repairs in the district. The issue will cost homeowners $7.88 per month per $100,000.
Sandy Creek Fire Department Levy
Votes voted in favor (63.19%) to renew a tax levy for the Sandy Creek Joint Fire District.
The approval of the levy will provide $878,823 a year over five years for the fire district – which equates to $91 in property tax per $100,000 home.
The Sandy Creek Fire District levy was last renewed in 2016. The district serves Minerva, Paris Township, West Township in Columbiana County and a portion of Augusta Township in Carroll County.
