The Canton Police Department says an attempted murder/felonious assault investigation has taken a turn after the shooting victim died weeks later.

26-year-old Dajuan T. Wheat of Canton was shot April 16 in the 3100 block of Gilbert Circle NE. He died Sunday, May 1 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital.

The day after Wheat was shot, police arrested 17-year-old Anthony Steven Hinton on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault.

Canton Police Lieutenant Dennis Garren said the police department is hoping to have the charges against Hinton amended as a result of Wheat’s death.
