HS Sports Monday: Conotton’s Baker perfect in OVAC semis; Malvern leads Strasburg in rain-struck baseball

Conotton Valley’s Masy Baker threw a perfect game in the state-ranked Rockets’ 10-0 Monday victory over Paden City in the OVAC 1A Tournament Semifinals in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Conotton Valley advances to the OVAC finals this weekend.

INDIAN VALLEY 10, CLAYMONT 9

Indian Valley scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a Monday win over Claymont in Gnadenhutten.

Madison Monte had the game-winning hit for the Braves, who advance to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Mia Rose added two singles and a home run for the Braves, while Corra Love and Ashley Baker added two singles apiece.

STRASBURG 17, MALVERN 0

Lauren Harvey allowed one hit and struck out eight batters in Strasburg’s five-inning mercy win over Malvern.

The state-ranked Tigers roped three home runs, with Amelia Spidell hitting an inside-the-park homer for two RBIs. Emma Gilkerson and Maggie Richards each hit a home run to boost the Strasburg offense.

The Tigers move to 11-2 on the season.

NEW PHILADELPHIA 3, ASHLAND 0

New Philadelphia bested Ashland on Monday in Ashland.

The Quakers were led by Julia Miller’s 16 strikeouts.

New Phila scored three runs in the top of the 7th to down Ashland.

GARAWAY 12, RIDGEWOOD 0

The Garaway Pirates earned their fifth win out of six contests in West Lafayette on Monday.

Garaway dropped an 11-run scoring bomb on the Generals in the top of the fourth inning.

Jordyn Keim hit two singles and a home run for three RBIs to lead the Bucs, while Isabelle Tetreault allowed two hits while striking out nine.

NEWCOMERSTOWN 14, EAST CANTON 0

Karley Inlge threw a complete-game shutout to lead the Newcomerstown Trojans to a Monday blowout victory over East Canton.

BASEBALL

MALVERN 3, STRASBURG 2 (DELAY)

Malvern and Strasburg played to a 3-2 score through six innings when heavy Monday night rains forced a suspension of the contest.

The game is expected to resume on Wednesday at Malvern before the Hornets’ regularly scheduled hosting of the Tigers.

INDIAN VALLEY 16, CLAYMONT 4

State-ranked Indian Valley moved to 13-1 and 7-0 in the IVC with a Monday win over Claymont.

Cole Lancaster racked up four RBIs for the Braves.

Gavin Henry and Spencer Haney combined for the Braves victory.

Conner Hillyer led the Mustangs with three hits.

GARAWAY 4, RIDGEWOOD 1

Brady Roden threw a complete game as Garaway earned an IVC win over Ridgewood.

The Pirates move to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while Ridgewood dropped to 4-6 overall.
