Zach Ross is expected to be hired as the new varsity boys basketball head coach at New Philadelphia High School during the school’s next Board of Education meeting.

Darren Lautenschleger of The Times-Reporter first reported the story on Thursday.

Ross, a New Philadelphia native and 2008 graduate of Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School, has spent the last three seasons as head coach of Jonathan Alder’s boys’ basketball team.

The Division II Columbus-area Pioneers went 18-7 last season under Ross and compiled a 58-13 record with two Central Buckeye Conference titles in three years. In that time, Ross earned two District 10 Coach of the Year honors.

Ross posted to Twitter on Thursday a message to Jonathan Alder’s basketball program, citing a “Thank You” to the school and program:

Before arriving in Alder, Ross spent a season as the boys’ coach at Johnstown-Monroe, and led the program to a 19-5 first-place finish in the Licking County League, earning LCL Coach of the Year and District 11 Coach of the Year honors.

Ross, 32, is expected to succeed Matt Voll, who resigned as Quakers coach during the offseason.
