HS Sports Wednesday: Strasburg sweeps TCC; Malvern edges East Canton in high-scoring affair

Strasburg mercy-ruled Tuscarawas Central Catholic by a 14-0 five-inning decision on Wednesday in New Philadelphia.

Amelia Spidell pitched four innings for the Tigers, allowing just two hits while striking out five. Spidell also went 2-for-3 (single, triple) with an RBI at the plate.

Strasburg totaled 13 hits for the contest. Emma Gilkerson led the Tigers with two doubles and three runs scored, while Maggie Richards roped a single and a triple for 2 RBIs.

Jersi Hickman and Edith Quiroz each recorded a hit for the Saints.

MALVERN 22, EAST CANTON 20

East Canton and Malvern combined for 42 runs in a Wednesday night E.C. win.

Mslvern head coach Ashley Mayle Dorr earned her first coaching win.

CLAYMONT 6, SANDY VALLEY 4

CLAYMONT 10, SANDY VALLEY 4

Claymont swept a softball doubleheader over Sandy Valley on Wednesday in the Twin Cities.

In Game 1, the Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and held on for the victory. Lexi Greer and Alexa Shearn each hit a pair of singles and recorded an RBI for Claymont.

In Game 2, Sandy Valley’s Breeli Faiello hit her first career home run to add to a 2-for-2 performance.

TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 5, GARAWAY 4

Tusky Valley staved off a late Garaway rally to pick up a Wednesday night IVC win.

Susan Thompson and Kylie Rohr each hit a home run for the Trojans, while Rohr struck out seven on the mound.

Isabelle Tetreault pitched a complete game for the Pirates, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits and seven strikeouts.

Tetreault and Meghan Petitte each totaled a double and an RBI.

INDIAN VALLEY 3, TRI-VALLEY 2

Indian Valley won a close Wednesday contest with Tri-Valley.

BASEBALL

STRASBURG 3, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1

Cooper Dailey struck out eight TCC batters in a Wednesday Tigers win at New Philadelphia.

Dailey allowed just two hits and an unearned run in the victory.

Joe Fischer hit two doubles for Strasburg, while Nick Martin totaled a single and a double.

EAST CANTON 3, MALVERN 2 (8 INN.)

East Canton won their second straight game against Malvern in a Wednesday decision that ended on an Olly Schrader walk-off infield single in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Chase Vacco pitched all eight innings for the winning Hornets, allowing four hits and striking out nine.

Malvern fell to 2-5 with the loss.

HILAND 14, RIDGEWOOD 2

Hiland rolled to a Wednesday night win over Ridgewood.

Will Schlabach blasted a 3-run home run for the Hawks, while Braden Kaufman roped four hits for Hiland.

Cody Yoder and Nolan Yoder both had three hits apiece for the Hawks.

INDIAN VALLEY 10, JOHN GLENN 1

The Indian Valley Braves handled John Glenn on Wednesday night.

Gavin Henry gave up just five hits and a run in a complete-game outing while recording eight strikeouts.

Henry also ripped a 3-run home run to lead the Indian Valley offense.

SANDY VALLEY 9, CLAYMONT 1

Nick Petro struck out 10 in a complete-game performance on Wednesday.

Kaiden Mastri and Luke Williams each recorded a pair of hits for the Cardinals.
