Dover girls wrestler Payton Curley claimed the 170-pound state title at the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association Girls State Tournament at Hillard Davidson on Sunday.

The Crimson Tornadoes senior claimed the title with a 2:20 stoppage over Alleana Brown of Logan Hocking High School.

Curley went 2-0 on Saturday to reach the tournament’s semifinals in the 170-poind division, and decisoned Ademar Ramirez of DeSales 7-6 in the semifinals to reach the final.

Curley took this year’s title after placing second and third in the previous wrestling championships.

While Curley took the championship for Dover, Minerva junior Alaina Jackson won her third consecutive state title with a Sunday victory in the 235-pound division.

The Lions girls finished fifth overall, as Bridget Hilliard finished fifth individually, and Paige Lucas in seventh place.

Sandy Valley’s Maddie Vickers finished sixth at 125 pounds, while West Holmes’s Cylie Couch finished sixth in the 105-pound pool.
