HS Sports Wednesday: Dover girls basketball wins, wrestling loses; Fairless’s Lyon reaches 1000 points

Dover’s girls basketball team bested the Minerva Lions 48-38 in a road matchup.

The Crimson Tornadoes (11-9) were led by Morgan Kiser’s 20 points, while Tori Jones (11 points) and Taylor Luneborg (10 points) contributed to the Crimson victory.

Jenna Cassidy and Lydia Brunner each totaled nine points to lead the Lions (8-13).

FAIRLESS 41, TRIWAY 35

Fairless Senior Grace Lyon scored her 1000th career point in the Falcons’ Wednesday night win over Triway.

Lyon scored a team-high 24 points for the contest, while Gracie Ashton added seven points for Fairless.

Aaliyah Wirth led Triway with 12 points, while Mallory Fluharty added 10 points.

GARAWAY 40, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 35 (OT)

Central Catholic shut out Garaway in the overtime period of the Saints’ Wednesday Senior Night victory.

Maddie Ferrell led the Saints (15-6) led the Saints in scoring with 18 points, while Reese Triplett pitched in 11 points for the victors.

The Pirates (10-11) were led by Riley Putt’s 12 points.

WEST HOLMES 55, LEXINGTON 42

The West Holmes girls wrapped up their second consecutive Ohio Cardinal Conference title with a Wednesday night dub over Lexington High School.

Kinsey Patterson scored a team-high 23 points and recorded four steals, while Ella McMIllen totaled 16 points and 13 rebounds.

CARROLLTON 34, CANTON SOUTH 33

Carrollton forced Canton South to blink first in a Wednesday night Eastern Buckeye Conference showdown.

The Warriors (11-10, 4-8 EBC) were led by Lauren Marmo’s 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Summer Hastings-Peterson scored 12 points to lead the Wildcats (13-9).

RIDGEWOOD 46, EAST CANTON 23

The Ridgewood Generals took a Wednesday night IVC matchup over East Canton.

Ridgewood (6-13) was led by Kelsie Stephens (22 points) and Mya Masloski (19 points).

Tori Reichard led the Wizards (5-17) with six points.

WRESTLING

INDIAN VALLEY 53, DOVER 21

Indian Valley’s wrestling squad bested Dover in a Wednesday night match.

Braves Gage Woods (106 pounds), Isaac Meese (113 pounds), and Leroy Steagal (120 pounds) were among the early victors in the match, followed by Quake Beatty (132 pounds), Gavin Hostetler (138 pounds), Remmington Meyers (170 pounds), and Jaxon Burcher (195 pounds).

Crimson Tornadoes wins included: Pedro Brito-Garcia (126 pounds), Marco Mejia-Ajanel (145 pounds, forfeit), and Noah Tristano.

MALVERN TRIANGULAR

The Malvern Hornets bested Newcomerstown and Tuscarawas Valley in a Wednesday night triangular.

The Hornets bested Nc’Town 58-16, followed by a 48-27 over Tusky.
