HS Boys Basketball Friday: Claymont, Sandy Valley pick up IVC upsets; New Philadelphia tops Warren Local

Sandy Valley High School handed Malvern High School its first loss of the season in a 68-65 final on Friday night.

Kaiden Mastri led the Cardinals (5-6) with 28 points, while Dantae Faiello (13 points) and Ben Petro (11) contributed to the Sandy scoring.

The Hornets (9-1) offense consisted mainly of Michael Minor’s 30 points, while Connor Lefevre and Dylan Phillips each scored eight points.

CLAYMONT 58, STRASBURG 55

While the Cardinals upset Malvern, the Claymont Mustangs upended Strasburg on Friday night in the Twin Cities.

Connor Lynch led the Mustangs with 16 points, while Brody Moreland scored 15 for the victors.

Claymont moved to 2-9, while the Tigers fell to 8-3.

NEW PHILADELPHIA 68, WARREN LOCAL 51

Michael Vickers scored 20 first-half points in the New Philadelphia Quakers’ win over Warren Local on Friday night.

Vickers ended the night with 24 points, while Kayden Schoelles scored 16 points and Carter Vandall added 11.

The Quakers moved to 7-2 with the victory.

TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 61, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 52

Tusky Valley rolled to a nine-point win over TCC on Friday.

The Trojans moved to 9-3 with the win, while the Saints dropped to 5-5.

GARAWAY 69, NEWCOMERSTOWN 30

Garaway improved to 7-2 (4-1 IVC South) with a blowout win over the Newcomerstown Trojans on Friday.

The Pirates were led by Logan Yoder’s 15 points and Drew Mullet’s 11, as the two were a part of ten scoring players for the Bucs in the victory.

Braxton Wilson and Trenton Newkirk each scored six points for Nc’Town (1-10, 0-6 South).

INDIAN VALLEY 65, EAST CANTON 39

The Indian Valley Braves handled East Canton High School in Gnadenhutten.

Tyson Pryor led I.V. with 17 points, while Tanyon McComb and Lucas Hagan each scored 12.

Landon Demos totaled 10 points for the Hornets – the only East Canton player to score in double figures.

RIDGEWOOD 55, CONOTTON VALLEY 26

Ridgewood dropped Conotton Valley to 4-9 in a 29-point win on Friday night.

The Generals advanced to 9-2 for the season with the win.

CARROLLTON, 59, SALEM 58 (OT)

The Carrollton Warriors survived an overtime thriller with Salem High School on Friday night.

Jaxon Rinkes (15 points) nailed a game-tying shot at the regulation buzzer, while Lincoln Mallarnee hit the game-winning free throw to propel Carrollton to victory.

Darick Miller (12 points, 12 rebounds) also contributed to the Warriors win.
