HS Sports Thursday: Hiland, Garaway boys sweat out victories; St. Clairsville girls beat Indian Valley

Hiland rallied for a 53-47 IVC South boys basketball win over Tusky Valley on Thursday in Zoarville.

Chris Shetler scored 14 points to lead the Hawks (6-1, 5-0 IVC), while Sammy Detweiler added nine points and Dylan Weaver and Grant Miller added eight points apiece.

The Trojans (6-3, 2-3) were led in scoring by Connar Newsome (13 points), while Cody Robinson and Logan Stotzer each scored eight points.

GARAWAY 59, WEST HOLMES 55

Garaway won a close non-conference matchup with West Holmes on Thursday.

The Pirates (5-2) were led by Drew Mullet’s 15 points, followed by Alexander Roden (11 points) and Brendan Chapman (9).

Channer Wells led the Knights with 23 points, while Blake Morrison added 14.

INDIAN VALLEY 52, BEAVER LOCAL 41

The Indian Valley Braves picked up a non-conference win over Beaver Local.

The Braves (4-3) were led by Lucas Hagan (28 points), along with Isaac Klaserner’s nine points and Reese Coulson’s eight.

SANDY VALLEY 59, FAIRLESS 44

The Cardinals won on the road in Fairless on Thursday.

Kaiden Mastri and Brandon Wigfield both led Sandy (4-4) with 15 points, while Dantae Faiello added 10 points.

Brody Pumneo led the Falcons (3-6) and all scorers with 22 points, while also adding eight rebounds.

BUCKEYE TRAIL 53, CONOTTON VALLEY 38

Buckeye Trail advanced to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the IVC North with a Thursday night victory over Conotton Valley.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ST. CLAIRSVILLE 51, INDIAN VALLEY 43

St. Clairsville won a non-conference Thursday night contest against the Indian Valley braves.

St. C was led in scoring by Alexis Thoburn and Sydney Miller, who each scored 13 points.

Ashton Doak led the Braves (0-8) with a game-high 15 points.
