HS Boys Basketball Friday: New Philadelphia nails down 10-point win over Dover; Hiland, Malvern, Strasburg still unbeaten in IVC play

New Philadelphia High School pulled away from the Dover Crimson Tornadoes in a 55-45 victory on Friday night at Quaker Gymnasium.

The Quakers ended the contest on a 7-0 run to close out Dover and advance their record to 4-1 (2-0 ECOL).

Carter Vandall led N.P. with 23 points and six rebounds, while Michael Vickers added thirteen points, including nine in the fourth quarter.

The Tornadoes (3-1, 1-1) were led by senior Mikey Beal’s 16 points.

STRASBURG 54, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 43

The Strasburg Tigers improved to 6-1 and 5-0 in IVC action with a double-digit win over Central Catholic on Friday.

T.C.C. dropped to 3-2 (2-2).

MALVERN 66, EAST CANTON 26

The Malvern Hornets also remained unbeaten in conference play with a blowout win over East Canton.

Malvern (5-0, 3-0) was led by Michael Minor’s 19 points, while K.J. Thomas added 15.

Luke Riley led E.C. (3-3, 2-2) with eight points.

FAIRLESS 61, MANCHESTER 60

Fairless rallied to best Akron Manchester in the Falcons’ PAC-7 home opener on Friday night.

Brody Pumneo tallied 19 points, while Tayler Buttermore added 16 and Coltin Collucci posted 10.

Daniel Sensius led Manchester with 19 points.

HILAND 53, INDIAN VALLEY 39

The Hiland Hawks edged the Indian Valley Braves on Friday night in Gnadenhutten.

The Hawks (4-1, 3-0) were led in scoring by Dylan Weaver (20), and got eight points each from Caden Miller, Grant Miller, and Chris Shetler.

Isaac Klaserner scored 11 points for I.V., while Tyson Pryor tallied 10 for the Braves (2-3, 0-3).

TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 54, SANDY VALLEY 17

Tusky Valley easily dispatched Sandy Valley on Friday night.

Silas Miller tallied 15 points, while Connar Newsome and Logan Stotzer each added 11 for T.V. (6-1, 2-1).

The Cardinals (3-3, 1-1) were led by Jordan Wigfield’s five points.

GARAWAY 59, CLAYMONT 38

Drew Mullet led Garaway (3-2, 3-1) with 14 points as Garaway won over Claymont.

Jarett Wallick and Alex Roden each added nine points apiece for the Bucs.

Connor Lynch scored 10 points for the Mustangs (1-6, 0-4).

TORONTO 46, CONOTTON VALLEY 38

Toronto bested Conotton Valley in a Friday night OVAC contest.

Toronto led 23-19 at halftime, and 29-28 heading into the final period.

MINERVA 57, CARROLLTON 43

The Minerva Lions won by 14 points over Carrollton in a Friday EBC matchup.

The Lions (2-4, 1-2) were led in scoring by Brayden Costea (30 points) and Connor Shingleton (10).

Lincoln Mallarnee led Carrollton (1-6, 0-3) with 11 points.

BUCKEYE TRAIL 78, NEWCOMERSTOWN 61

Buckeye Trail won a high-scoring affair over Newcomerstown.

The Warriors improved to 1-4, 1-2, while Newcomerstown fell to 0-7, 0-5.

CAMBRIDGE 44, WEST HOLMES 40

The Cambridge Bobcats bested West Holmes on Friday night’s Knights home opener.

Caleb Bond scored 16 points, including 10 in the second half for the Bobcats (3-2).

Blake Morrison and Channer Wells each scored 12 points to lead West Holmes.
