The New Philadelphia post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that killed a Canton woman and injured two others Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred on State Route 212 in Warren Township. Troopers said a 19-year-old Carrollton woman was traveling southbound in a 2012 Subaru Legacy on County Road 90 (New Cumberland Road) just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The 19-year-old failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection with Route 212, according to troopers. Her vehicle was struck by a Ford Escape, driven by a 73-year-old woman from Navarre, who was traveling east on 212.

Nichole Hunt, a passenger in the 19-year-old’s vehicle, died at the scene. She was 40 years old from Canton.

Both vehicles involved in the accident came to a rest in a field off the south edge of the road.

The Navarre woman was flown from the scene to Akron City Hospital. The Carrollton woman was transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton by Fairfield Township.
