Former UFC champion Cody Garbrandt was knocked out in the first round of his flyweight debut by Kai Kara-France at Saturday’s UFC 269.

The New Zealander got the stoppage win over the Uhrichsville, Ohio-native Garbrandt at the 3:21 mark of Round 1, ending the night early with three droppings of the former UFC bantamweight belt holder – the last of which ended on a flurry of punches by Kara-France.

Garbrandt was making his debut in the 125-pound division. His record in mixed martial arts falls to 12-5 (7-5 in UFC) with the fifth loss of his last six fights.

As for Kara-France, he picks up his second consecutive win and raises his MMA record to 23-9 (6-2 UFC).
