HS Sports Monday: New Philadelphia, Sandy Valley girls basketball remain unbeaten

New Philadelphia overcame a 13-3 first quarter deficit to top host Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, 43-40, on Monday night.

The Quakers (3-0) were led by Audrey Harr (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Ajia Schreffler (15 points, 11 rebounds).

Annie Watson led the Irish with 16 points.

SANDY VALLEY 63, CONOTTON VALLEY 6

The Sandy Valley Cardinals held Conotton Valley to single-digit scoring in a blowout victory from Magnolia.

Lexi Tucci scored 17 points with six rebounds, while Abbey Parker added 11 points and five boards. Zoe Ward also scored 10 points and recorded five steals.

The Cardinals improved to 3-0 on the year.

DOVER 47, CARROLLTON 40

Dover won its first game of the season over the Carrollton Warriors.

Tori Jones scored 21 points and tabbed six rebounds for the Tornadoes (1-2), while Morgan Kiser added 14 points and five steals.

Grace Leslie led the Warriors (0-1) with 15 points.

STEUBENVILLE 35, CLAYMONT 33

The Steubenville Big Red scored a road victory at Claymont on Monday night.

Bailey Eddleman (11 points) and Emily Grant (10 points) led the Mustangs in the loss.

BOWLING

EAST CANTON vs. NEW PHILADELPHIA

New Philadelphia swept East Canton in boys and girls’ bowling on Monday at Boulevard Lanes.

The Quaker boys won 2,388-2,326, with Zach Schupbach (427 series) and Caleb Ankeny (402) leading New Phila.

New Philadelphia’s girls squad won 1,934-1,600, led by Hannah Trimble’s 352 series (181-171).

Maggie Compher followed with a 332 (160-172) for the Quakers.
