Thanksgiving has come and gone. So, now it’s officially time to get ready for the upcoming holiday season.

Allison Gromofsky is the Marketing Coordinator for Visit Canton and she spoke with Jordan Miller on “Live and Local” on 1480 WHBC Friday and she says Stark County will be a hotbed for holiday happenings starting next week.

“The holiday happenings are in full swing and Santa is here! He’s at Belden Village Mall every day to take pictures with the kids,” Gromofsky says. “There are also a lot of events coming up. Next Thursday is ‘Light Up Downtown’ and that is a family tradition for so many people in Stark County. It’s right in downtown Canton, Santa will be arriving, there will be fireworks, there will be different activities all throughout downtown with local business, and then hopefully, fingers crossed, with weather permitting, the Hall of Fame City Ice Rink will open on December 2nd. It’s perfect for date night, for families, it’s very affordable as well so it’s a great night out.”

Even though it will not be occurring outdoors until the spring, the North Canton Farmers Market will be offering produce for the community. Gromofsky says that it’s the perfect local spot to get fresh food.

“The Farmers Market is indoors in North Canton as it will be happening all throughout the winter season,” said Gromofsky. “It’s perfect if you have more holiday happenings throughout the month of December.  It’s perfect for dinner parties so you can get your fresh fruits, vegetables, there’s meat there, and there are also a lot of artists coming this time of year with some gift shopping as well. The North Canton Farmers Market is located at the old K-Mart building in downtown North Canton on Main Street. It’s perfect to run after work on Wednesdays from 3-6. P.M.”

For sports fans, the OHSAA football state championship games for all 7 divisions will be commencing at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in the shadows of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton next weekend. Gromofsky is very excited to welcome the teams and their communities to the Hall of Fame City.

“We are so happy to host all 14 teams and their families, friends, bands, and cheerleaders from the state of Ohio for the OHSAA State Championship Games,” Gromofsky said. “It’s such a great time. There’s a Thursday night game on December 2nd, there are 3 games on Friday, December 3rd and on Saturday, December 4th. People can purchase their single game tickets now for $15 per person or for $90 per person, you can buy a pass to attend all 7 games. Those tickets can be purchased now at ohsaa.org/tickets and next weekend is going to be great here in Canton, Ohio.”

A Stark County tradition is back as “A Christmas Carol” will kick off their weekend run for the holiday season and Gromofsky says she is excited for the show to come back to the stage.

“Next weekend, December 3rd, “A Christmas Carol” kicks off at the Players Guild Theater so that will be running through December 19th,” says Gromofsky. “It’s performed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It’s a holiday tradition that so many people enjoy going to and it is back this year in full production so get your tickets if you haven’t already and as always, go to visitcanton.com or on our social media @visitcanton to keep up with all of the holiday happenings!”
