The Garaway Pirates’ second postseason victory was similar to their first.
After a 40-10 drubbing of Buckeye Local the previous week, the Bucs needed just one big half to beat Southeast, 48-7, and advance to the next round of the Division V, Region 17 playoffs.
Garaway continued their offensive reign early in the home contest – their last for the 2021 season – with the first of quarterback Logan Yoder’s four total touchdowns early in the opening quarter.
Yoder’s backfield partner Ethan Miller would also find the end zone in the first half on a touchdown run that gave Garaway a 13-0 lead, but Southeast would cut the lead by seven on Jaidyn Sapp’s touchdown.
However, the visiting Pirates’ offense hit the brakes for the remainder of the contest, while Garaway permanently kept a heavy foot on the gas.
After Miller took a kickoff back to Southeast’s 19 yard-line, Yoder would scramble for a touchdown and a 20-7 lead, then on another rushing score in Garaway’s next drive to make it 27-7. Garaway would then take a 34-7 lead before Yoder connected with Miller for a passing touchdown and a 41-7 halftime advantage.
Much like last week’s game against the Panthers, the second half saw one score, on a rushing touchdown by Gabe Amicone.
The Pirates move to 12-0 for the season and will take on South Range High School next week.
