A teenager is dead and a person, who locked himself inside a house for hours a fatal shooting, is behind bars.

Akron Police say a 19-year-old was killed Tuesday night after being shot to death inside a vehicle. One person was arrested following an hours-long standoff in Akron on Tuesday, according to the Akron Police Department.

Police responded to the 1400 block of Bernice Avenue, where they found the 19-year-old in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

It was determined the shooter was inside the vehicle with the victim when he was shot.

Officers responded just before 7 p.m. to the 700 block of Russell Avenue where one of the alleged shooters barricaded himself inside a home.

The suspect remained inside the home for hours, despite verbal attempts for him to surrender. Police say he exited the home just before 10 p.m. Tuesday and was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say it is unclear what role, if any, the person arrested played in the death of the 19-year-old.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the department’s detective bureau at 330-375–2490.
