New Philadelphia’s Devore, John Glenn punch ticket to girls golf state

New Philadelphia senior Sydney Devore shot a 3-under 69 to win the Division I Girls East District individual title on Monday at EagleSticks Golf Club in Zanesville.

Devore posted a 34 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine to finish one shot ahead of Miami Trace’s Libby Aleshire.

Devore will advance to the state tournament, to be held at the Gray Course at The Ohio State University on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22-23.

Devore will be joined by the John Glenn girls’ team, who posted a 326 total to move on as the lone team to Columbus.

The Muskies were led by Gracie Milam, who finished third behind Devore individually at 71 (-1). Addy Burris (80), Elise Abrams (84), and Abby McCullough (91) also posted qualifying scores for John Glenn.

Miami Trace finished second at 339, while Dover finished third at 364. Junior Riley Schie (80) led scoring for the Crimson Tornadoes.
