The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a plane crash that occurred Tuesday, just after 4 p.m. in a field northeast of East Sparta in Pike Township in Stark County.

Officials with the OSHP said Robert J. Donahue, age 68, of Akron, Ohio was operating a 1982 Cesna aircraft when he experienced mechanical problems. Donahue said he lost power before he was forced to crash land in a field.

The aircraft sustained minimal damage and thankfully the pilot, Donahue, was not injured in the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also responded to the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.
