Thompson’s 73 leads Tusky Valley to girls’ sectional tourney win

Tuscarawas Valley senior Susan Thompson shot a 2-over 73 in the Trojans’ winning 325 finish at the Division. III girls Sectional golf tournament on Tuesday at Carroll Meadows Golf Course.

The Trojans finished ten shots ahead runner-up Garaway (325), while Fort Frye (359) and Carrollton (362) also advanced to next week’s East District tournament at Cambridge Country Club.

Thompson was the tournament medalist with her performance, while Garaway’s Sammi Miller (78, +7) and Carrollton’s Ashlee Garner (79, +8) finished second and third, respectively, among all individual golfers.

The Trojans also received qualifying scores from Kyle Rohr (80), Autumn Rohr (84), and Leah Wright (88).

For the Pirates, Olivia Immel (84) and Brooklyn Numbers (88) joined Miller in Garaway scoring, along with Hannah Steiner (87).

Fort Frye was led by senior Ella Keffer (81), while Denay Layton (84), Maggie White (96), and Megan Bohl (98) also qualified for the Cadets.

Along with Garner’s score, the Warriors advanced on finishes from Claire Hostetler (87), Pheobe Moore (96), and Olivia Nist (100).

Indian Valley (400, 5th place), River View (412, 6th), Claymont (425, 7th), Newcomerstown (445, 8th), Edison (447, 9th), West Muskingum (463, 10th), River (472, 11th), St. Clairsville (481, 12th), and Ridgewood (501, 13th) rounded out qualifying team totals for the single-day tournament.
