HS Sports Wednesday: New Philadelphia wins ECOL golf title; Newcomerstown volleyball falls to Caldwell

The second half of the East Central Ohio League’s boys golf tournament was played at River Greens on Wednesday, and the New Philadelphia Quakers took the top spot.

The rain-shortened Wednesday outing (nine holes) was led by Marietta (154), but New Philadelphia (155 on Wednesday) was the overall league winner along with their 317-stroke performance at Oak Shadows on Aug. 16.

New Philadelphia’s Shad Kenily shot a 77-36-113 and was followed by Nathan Menapace (77-38-115), Louis Devore (82-42-124), and Jacob Hootman (77-39-116).

Dover finished third overall with a 315-161-476, led by Carter Begue (76-41-117), Jacob Hanner (79-38-117), Dylan Grewell (79-40-119), and Zach Dale (81-42-123). 

Warren Local placed fourth at 343-164-507 while boasting ECOL Player of the Year Caleb Davis (110).

New Philadelphia head coach Mike Miller took Coach of the Year honors.

CALDWELL 25-25-25, NEWCOMERSTOWN 6-10-17

Caldwell improved to 9-2 after a three-set win over Newcomerstown.
