HS Sports Tuesday: Tusky Valley volleyball sweeps Hiland; New Philadelphia boys golf edges Dover

Tuscarawas Valley bested the Hiland Hawks in three sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-23) in their Tuesday volleyball match.

Ashley Merrick (12 kills, 23 digs) and Locie Levengood (25 assists, 13 points, three aces) were the top performers for the Trojans, while Hiland was led by Gracie Keim (20 assists), Ava Troyer (15 kills, five blocks).

CAMBRIDGE 25-25-25, NEW PHILADELPHIA 23-16-23

The Cambridge Bobcats picked up a road win over New Philadelphia in ECOL play.

Camryn Gebhart (16 digs, 11 kills), Ava Byerly (26 assists, 15 digs), Ziciah Gibson (21 digs, eight kills) led the Bobcats.

DOVER 25-25-25, WARREN LOCAL 9-15-12

The Crimson Tornadoes easily swept Warren Local on Senior Night.

Taylor Luneborg led Dover (9 kills), along with solid outings from Cara Detweiler (7 kills) and Morgan Kiser (11 points, seven kills).

Dover moved to 8-2 and 3-1 in the ECOL.

GARAWAY 25-25-25, INDIAN VALLEY 17-20-17

Garaway won their IVC matchup with Indian Valley in three sets.

The Pirates’ top performers were Morgan Schlabach (11 kills, 15 digs), Laiken Wallick (11 digs, six kills, four blocks), Shelby Gerber (15 digs, 21 assists).

Cari Anderson (14 assists, 5 digs, 3 kills, 12 points) led the Braves.

MALVERN 25-25-25, EAST CANTON 20-10-14

The Hornets earned their first victory of the year in a three-set sweep at East Canton.

Malvern (1-9, 1-3 IVC) was led by Olivia Brothers (18 points, 12 assists, eight aces) and Maddie Powers (10 kills, five digs).

CARROLLTON 25-22-25-25, CANTON SOUTH 18-25-22-15

Carrollton overcame a dropped second set to win over Canton South on Tuesday.

Brylie Wade (11 points, three aces) and Erin King (9 kills) led the Warriors (3-11, 2-3).

BOYS GOLF

NEW PHILADELPHIA 160, DOVER 161

A rivalry matchup at Oak Shadows’ back nine went in favor of the New Philadelphia Quakers, who edged the Dover Tornadoes by a single shot on Tuesday.

Shad Kenily and Nathan Menapace each shot 39 to lead the Quakers, while Jacob Hootman (40) and Louis Devore (41) rounded out New Phila’s scoring.

 Dover’s Carter Begue was match medalist at 36, while Jacob Hanner and Zack Dale each shot a 42. Dylan Grewell added a 43 for the Tornadoes.

GIRLS GOLF

INDIAN VALLEY 188, DOVER 189

Dover’s girls golfers also suffered a one-shot defeat on Tuesday – to Indian Valley.

Abbie Barrett led the winners with a 41, while Kaylie Wrather (45), Emily Jones (46) and Madison Alexander (56) also scored for the Braves. 

Riley Schie led Dover at a match-low 40.

Mya Downing (45), Ava Adams (48), and Izzy Lint (56) also scored for Dover. 

CARROLLTON 194, MINERVA 234

Ashlee Garner carded a 42 to lead the Warriors to a win over Minerva at Great Trail. 

Pheobe Moore (49), Claire Hostetler (50), and Paige Davis (53) rounded out the scores for Carrollton (12-2, 8-2). 

Danielle Weiss led the Lions (0-11, 0-10) at 50.
