An FDA advisory group voted 16-2 against a Covid-19 booster shot for the general population Friday. Biden’s administration had been pushing for the passage of the booster.
The panel first was asked to vote if the booster shot was safe and effective for people 16 and up. They voted against the recommendation, concerned about the safety of younger people receiving boosters.
The advisory panel is expected to hold a discussion about possible modifications.
Biden’s administration announced last month that the booster shot would be available to the general population beginning the week of Sept. 20.
