HS Soccer Saturday: Dover boys top New Philadelphia; Contini’s big night leads Quaker girls over Tornadoes

In a rivalry between two schools primarily known for football, both Dover and New Philadelphia sent out their respective girls and boys teams into Crater Stadium on Saturday night for fútbol (soccer).

The Quakers’ girls team topped host Dover 4-1 in the first match, while the Crimson Tornadoes followed with a 2-0 victory over New Phila.

In the opening girls’ match, the Quakers (1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead, led by Lauryn Contini’s stellar performance. The sophomore scored four goals in the contest to contribute to the Quaker victory.

Alyssa Feller scored Dover’s (0-4) lone goal with 5:03 left in the second half, while Addie Martin had eight saves as Dover’s goalie. 

In the boys’ contest, Seth Wisentainer opened the Tornado scores midway through the first half, while Jaiden Sneed found the net in the second half to give Dover the match edge.

GIRLS SOCCER

FAIRLESS 5, WAYNEDALE 1

The Fairless Falcons topped Waynedale on Saturday.

Fairless (3-0) will take on Tuslaw this Monday.

WEST HOLMES 5, LOUDENVILLE 3

Allie McMillen scored all five goals for the host Knights, who advanced to 3-0 on the season with a 5-3 win over Loudenville.

BOYS SOCCER

MINERVA 9, SANDY VALLEY 1

The Minerva Lions dropped nine goals on the Sandy Valley Cardinals on Saturday in Magnolia.

WEST HOLMES 5, TRI-VALLEY 4

The Warriors of West Holmes beat Tri-Valley in Saturday’s match

Camron Arnold and Brody Schaad scored a pair of goals apiece for the winning team, along with a single goal from Ethan Feikert.
