Eleven Marines and one Navy medic have died following bombings in Afghanistan, according to US officials. A number of US troops were also injured.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones and teammates of all those killed and injured,” the Pentagon statement said.

The bombings were set off by two suicide bombers. They targeted Afghans who flocked to Kabul’s airport to flee before the Taliban takeover.

This has been deemed a “horrific terrorist attack.”
