Two people were transported to the hospital following an accident Saturday evening.

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle. The crash happened 7:15 P.M. on State Route 43 just north of Ridgeview Drive SE. in Sandy Township.

Von I. Castle, 54, of Canton, was operating a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on 43.

Lacy M. Mathess, 31, of Canton was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle at the time of the crash.

The OSHP said Castle lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a curve and drove off the right side of the roadway. The motorcycle then struck a traffic sign and ditch before overturning multiple times. Castle and Mathess were both ejected from the motorcycle when it overturned.

Mathess was transported from the scene to Aultman Hospital. Mathess remains in the care of medical staff and is being treated for non-life threating injuries.

Castle sustained minor injuries during the crash. He was transported from the scene to Mercy Medical Center.

Neither party was wearing a helment when the accident occurred. Alcohol is a suspected factor of the crash, according to OSHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
