BOYS SOCCER

DOVER 2, ST. CLAIRSVILLE 1

Reese Utter’s pair of goals led the Dover Tornadoes to a season-opening victory over St. Clairsville on Saturday.

Rthan Kopp added a save on one of Utter’s goals.

NEW PHILADELPHIA 8, WEST HOLMES 0

The New Philadelphia Quakers opened the season with an 8-0 blowout win over West Holmes.

Javen Doss and Simon Pugh each kicked in two goals, whole Elliott Warner, Logan Garner, Kobe Gaskin, and Preston Rieger each added a goal for the winning team, who received a shutout performance from goalie Nathaniel Demuth.

BLUFFTON 4, HILAND 3

The Hiland Hawks fell in their opener to Bluffton, 4-3, despite two goals from Zeke Bodiker and one from Caelan Howell.

Bryan Zimmerman broke the tie for the Pirates in the 65th minute to edge past the Hawks.

RIVER VIEW, 7, MINERVA 2

The River View Black Bears’ boys squad bested Minerva, 7-2, by jumping out to a 4-0 lead and hanging on for a season-opening win.

GIRLS SOCCER

WILLIAMSTOWN (W.Va.) 4, DOVER 0

The Dover girls soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to out-of-state opponent Williamstown on Saturday in the two teams’ respective season openers.

Williamstown led 1-0 for most of the contest before scoring three goals in the final ten minutes.

Emma Bailey led the winners with two goals, while Emma Berman and Ella McMullen each scored once.

WEST HOLMES 6, CANTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0

West Holmes scored a 6-0 victory in their opener against the Canton Central Catholic Crusaders.

Allie McMillen scored two goals from the nights, while Kenzie Fair, Olivia Snyder, Ally Ogi and Natalie Rohr scored once apiece.

FAIRLESS 7, SANDY VALLEY 0

After winning in football on Thursday night, Fairless won in ‘fútbol’ over Sandy Valley 7-0 on Saturday.

Gracie Ashton scored a hat trick with three goals, and Falcons goalie Isabella Rodriguez shut out the Cardinals.

Fairless outshot Sandy 28-2.

COSHOCTON 1, RIDGEWOOD 0

Coshocton edged the Ridgewood Generals, 1-0, in their opener at Stewart Field.

MINERVA 2, RIVER VIEW 1

The Minerva Lions bested the River View Black Bears, 2-1, despite R.V. outshooting the winners by a 10-4 margin.

HARRISON CENTRAL 1, STEUBENVILLE CATHOLIC CENTRAL 1

The Harrison Central Huskies and the Steubenville Catholic Central Crusaders played two a draw in their season opener.

VOLLEYBALL

CLAYMONT 25-25-25, INDIAN VALLEY 13-16-8

Claymont opened their volleyball season with a straight sets victory over the IndianValley Braves.

Ryleigh Ronald led the Mustangs with 12 kills and four blocks, while Averi Wallace (8 kills, 11 digs, 3 blocks) and Kailey Watkins (12 points, 6 digs) added to the victory.

HILAND 25-25-25, KIDRON CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 15-3-15

Hiland also opened their season with a three-set win over Kidron Central Christian.

Grace Keim led the Hawks with 30 assists, while Jamie Yoder posted 14 points and 8 aces.

MEADOWBROOK 25-25-25, NEW PHILADELPHIA 21-15-17

Meadowbrook bested road opponent New Philadelphia on Saturday in three sets, spoiling the debut for new Quakers volleyball coach Julie Shimko.

Sidney Vandall (6 kills, 5 digs) and Ali Voll (8 points, 6 digs) led the way for N.P.

STRASBURG 25-25-23-25, minerva 11-17-25-17

The Strasburg Tigers took down the Minerva Lions in four sets on Saturday, with Emma Gilkerson’s 21-point, 6-ace, 9-dig, and 8-kill day leading the way for the Orange and Black.

Maddy Edwards (9 points, 25 assists, 7 digs) and Paige Garren (8 points, 9 digs, 6 kills) also added to the Tigers’ win.

WAYNEDALE TRIANGULAR (GARAWAY, WAYNEDALE, WEST HOLMES)

The Waynedale Golden Bears swept their two Saturday matches against West Holmes and Garaway.

The Bears bested the Knights, 25-21, 25-22; then followed with a 25-19, 25-15 performance over the Pirates.

Garaway won their matchup with West Holmes, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22.

SANDY VALLEY TRIANGULAR (FAIRLESS, MALVERN, SANDY VALLEY)

Sandy Valley opened their season with wins over Malvern and Fairless in a Saturday triangular.

The host Cardinals defeated the Hornets, 25-20, 25-7, then bested the Falcons 25-13, 25-11.

In the third match, Fairless beat Malvern, 25-22, 25-20.

NORTHWEST TRIANGULAR (CANTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC, CARROLLTON, NORTHWEST)

The Carrollton Warriors dropped both of their Saturday matches to Canton Central Catholic and host Northwest.

The Warriors lost to Northwest by a score of 25-23, 25-11; they then fell to the Crusaders, 25-19, 25-21.

Northwest bested Canton C.C. in three sets: 22-25, 25-20, 25-7.
