HS Golf Thursday: Ritter leads Sandy Valley win over I.V.; Hiland wins Triangular

A 5-under performance from Sandy Valley’s Conner Ritter led the Cardinals in their 162-174 road win over Indian Valley on Thursday at River Greens Golf Course.

With a 31, Ritter joined Sandy scorers John Wood (38), Seth McCaulley (44), and Lucas Ellington (49) to earn the team’s first win of the season.

For the Braves, Austen Gunn shot a 42, along with scores from Aden Tressell (43), Isaac Stokey (44), and Daniel Gruwell (45).

HILAND 141, WEST HOLMES 164, STRASBURG 188

Brookston Hummel shot a 3-under 33 to lead Hiland (141) past West Holmes (164) and Strasburg (188) in a three-team boys golf match at Fire Ridge.

Carter Mishler and Kenny Weaver shot 35s and Lucas Yoder added a 38 for the Hawks.

For West Holmes, Hunter Ellis led the way with 38, while Brice Hunter shot 41, Trey Baker posted 42, and Brody Allen’s and Kenzie Woods earned matching 43s.

Nick Martin (42) led the Tigers in scoring. Trenton Bitikofer (44) and Cooper Dailey (50) followed, along with 52s from Andrew Harvey and Jason Grywalsky.

GARAWAY 155, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 193

Charles Beachy and Trace Gibson shot even 36s to lead the Pirates past the Saints, 155-193, at Black Gold Golf Club in Sugarcreek.

Carter Miller (41) and Emmet Royer (42) also scored for the Bucs, while Zane Douglass led Central with a (41). Also for the Saints: 48s from Piper Olson and Anthony Pangrazio, and Riley Fotheringham’s 56.

RIDGEWOOD 173, MALVERN 182

Ridgewood bested Malvern 173-182 at Minerva’s Great Trail Golf Course, with Charlie Kilpatrick (41) boasting the Generals’ top score on the par-35 course.

Cooper King (43), Zach Evin (44), and Benny Shuck (45) also scored for Ridgewood.

Ethan Bush (43), Daniel Untch (44), Lauren Brown (47), and Will Yerrick (48) scored for the Hornets.

CARROLLTON 165, ALLIANCE 198

The Carrollton Warriors improved to 5-0 with a 165-198 win over the Alliance at Alliance Country Club.

Jaxon Rinkes and John Birong each posted 39s, while Colton Moore (41) and Cayden Rininger (46) also contributed to the Warriors’ total.

Blake Hood (38) and Ty Young (44) led the way for the Aviators.


GIRLS GOLF

CANTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC 137, NEW PHILADELPHIA 156

The Canton Central Catholic Crusaders won over the New Philadelphia Quakers 137-156 at Oak Shadows, despite Sydney Devore’s 1-under 35 for the home team.

Kristen Belden (41) and Caroline Harold (47) led the way for Tri-C.

GARAWAY 167, INDIAN VALLEY 222

Garaway’s girls’ squad had no problem in their match with the Indian Valley Braves at River Greens.

Sammi Miller carded a 36, along with Sydni Prysi’s 43, and 44s from Hannah Steiner and Olivia Immel.

Emily Jones led I.V. at 45, while Natalie Holbrook posted a 56; Madison Alexander a 58; and Lexi Lute a 63.

MARLINGTON 164, CARROLLTON 197

Marlington handed Carrollton their first loss of the season in a 164-197 final at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance.

The Dukes were led by Jayden Mitchell’s 38 and Maria Warner’s 39. Zoe Mort also posted a 41, and Kelsey Nieman a 46.

Ashlee Garner led the Warriors with a 41, followed by Pheobe Moore’s 48, Claire Hostetler’s 50, and Savannah Gallo’s 58.

Marlington is now 2-0 in Eastern Buckeye Conference play (2-0 overall), while Carrollton drops to 3-1 in EBC play (4-1 overall).
