Akron Police are searching for a suspect who they say shot and injured a man in the 2200 block of East Ave.

Police say while on patrol in the parking lot of the Duchess Shoppe Gas Station, they heard gunshots and observed a male running away from a suspect who was shooting at him and in the direction of the police.

Both responding officers pursued the suspect on foot before one of them drew their service weapon and fired at the armed suspect. He continued on foot and escaped the sight of the officers and remains at large. It is unknown whether the suspect was shot or not.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, was shot at least twice, once in the chest. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Per departmental procedure, the officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave. They are both six-year veterans with the department.

A handgun and other evidence was recovered from the scene. The shooting remains under investigation.
