The City of North Canton Police Department identified a juvenile suspect responsible for a social media threat alleging they were going to shoot up Hoover High School.

Police say a tip was received shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday night (March 13) that a comment was made on Instagram.

After investigation by the North Canton Police with the assistance of the Canton Prosecutor’s Office, a search warrant was served at a home in Lake Township with help from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

A juvenile, who is not a current student in the North Canton City School District, was identified. The family has cooperated with the investigation and the juvenile remains in their custody, according to North Canton Police Chief Frank Kemp Jr.

Authorities are working with the Juvenile Division of the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office to file charges of Misdemeanor Aggravated Menacing and Felony Inducing Panic.
