February 24, 2021, and each year after, will further be known as ‘Dick Goddard Day’ to the City of Akron after an ordinance was brought forth by Councilwoman Tara L. Samples and Mayor Dan Horrigan. The ordinance was unanimously passed by the Akron City Council.

An Akron native, Goddard began his Cleveland TV career at WKYC and was the first meteorologist to appear live on television in the Cleveland area. His career spanned 51 years, retiring from Fox 8 with the longest career as a weather forecaster.

In 2016, former Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed into effect “Goddard’s Law.”

On, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 is the City of Akron’s first Dick Goddard Day. In honor of Akron born Dick Goddard, Councilwoman Tara L. Mosley Samples is asking that people use their social media accounts to honor Dick Goddard.

Samples is requesting that everyone post a photo and/or a video of themselves with their furry family members with the hashtag #DickGoddardDay and share with their social media friends and family.

“We look forward to doing something big in 2022 post COVID, so that we can celebrate Dick Goddard and all that he done for Northeast Ohio and the State of Ohio”, said Councilwoman Samples.
