Two City of Kent police officers and a suspect were shot Saturday morning when police responded to an East Summit St. home Saturday morning in Kent.

Police said a female called 911 stating that “an unknown male was forcibly entering the residence unlawfully,” according to City of Kent Police Lt. Mike Lewis.

Upon arrival, police learned the suspect had already gained access to the home and were immediately engaged with the suspect, who was armed with a firearm.

Shots were fired that struck two officers and the suspect, according to Lewis. The two officers who were shot suffered minor injuries and the suspect was shot in the abdomen. He has undergone surgery and is expected to be okay.

When the suspect is released from the hospital, he will immediately be taken into custody on charges of aggravated burglary, felonious assault against police officers and possible other charges, according to police.

The investigation into the shooting will be conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI).

“We are very grateful that our police officers are going to be okay,” Kent Police said. “We are very grateful they were able to respond and keep safe the innocent people who were inside the home.”
