The Canton Police Department is investigating after the body of a man was found in Canton in the Nimishillen Creek under I-77.
Canton Police Lt. Dennis Garren tells JMN they are not releasing the victims name at this time, pending an investigation.
“We got a call by a passerby that they saw a body in the creek,” he said. “We responded, located, and retrieved the body.”
It is unclear how the body got into the creek or how long it was there before a truck driver spotted the body Monday afternoon.
The Stark County coroner’s office office has not confirmed the identity of the body, but they believe it was a man who was reported missing five days into the New Year.
